General Tape Collection

Collection held in Christchurch

Includes audio on 7" and 10" reel-to-reel tapes, audio cassettes and digital audio tapes. These include both cuts edited from longer programmes, often taken out of context, as well as entire programmes and in some cases actual series in their entirety. The content is diverse and includes news and current affairs, sport, interviews with prominent people, drama, radio serials, musical items (including many NZ compositions not commercially released), recordings of important events, some parliamentary broadcasts, rural and other documentary features and everything else under the sun. Of particular note in this area are daily recordings of Radio New Zealand's flagship current affairs programmes, Morning Report and Checkpoint. These series run from about 1985 to 1998. A partial database of these recordings is available for online searching.
