(Collection held in Auckland and Christchurch)
As well as maintaining Radio New Zealand's existing collection of historical radio archive recordings, and making these available to the people of New Zealand, SA/NTK has been given the responsibility of constructing a picture of the New Zealand broadcast radio market as it exists today. To this end we have been registered under the Copyright Act 1994 (Section 90) as an archive, which enables us to record for archival purposes any radio broadcast, without violation of copyright. Obviously we are still bound by copyright legislation in the way we use the recordings, and make them available to New Zealanders. No use made by us of such recordings will breach the intellectual property rights of any broadcaster, programme maker or advertiser.
This collection consists of recordings made off air, and also those received on deposit. It is intended to show the full diversity of material broadcast in New Zealand by all networks and stations, whether commercial, public, access, student or other forms of broadcast providers. The growth of the collection will be overseen by SA/NTK staff, in consultation with an Advisory Panel representing the radio industry, the archives profession, and Maori broadcasting interests.
Apart from the publicly available online catalogues there are many other finding aids, catalogues, inventories and indexes available to the staff at Sound Archives/Nga Taonga Korero to facilitate client enquiries. We welcome enquiries regarding specific recordings that we may hold. Such enquiries should be as specific as possible, including all relevant names, dates, places and other particulars. You are welcome to email us for more detail on any of our recordings.
If you are aware of any inaccuracies or omissions, or have information relating to the database, please contact us at info@soundarchives.co.nz.
